SUMMARY:Ken Peplowski with the Ed Dunsavage Trio
DESCRIPTION:Siskiyou Music Project welcomes back clarinetist/saxophonist Ken Peplowski to southern Oregon. Ken will be joined by the Ed Dunsavage Trio featuring Joe Cohoon on bass & Chicken Hirsh on drums and will be performing some of the music from his latest recording\, Enrapture. \nKen Peplowski has recorded approximately 50 CDs as a soloist\, and close to 400 as a sideman\, some of the artists he’s performed/recorded with include Charlie Byrd\, Mel Torme\, Rosemary Clooney\, Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops\, Hank Jones\, Peggy Lee\, Bill Charlap\, Woody Allen\, Benny Goodman\, and Madonna. He travels at least half of every year\, playing clubs\, concert halls\, colleges\, and pops concerts. He has headlined the Hollywood Bowl\, Carnegie Hall\, the Blue Note\, and Dizzy’s Club amongst many other venues. Ken’s CDs on the Capri label\, “Noir Blue”\, “In Search Of”\, and “Maybe September” were released to great critical acclaim and massive airplay. He has recorded music as diverse as Italian and French folk songs\, avant-garde jazz\, pop\, and classical music; he recorded the Darius Milhaud Clarinet Concerto with an orchestra in Sofia\, Bulgaria\, and was a featured soloist (playing Mozart) in 2015 at the Siletz Bay Music Festival in Oregon\, where he will be premiering a new concerto in 2016\, written for him by Dick Hyman. Ken was the musical director of the Oregon Festival Of American Music (OFAM) for eight years\, and is a longtime performer/consultant to The Jazz Cruise\, where he was elected into the Jazz Cruise Hall Of Fame in 2013. He resides in New York City with his wife\, dog\, and whatever children happen to be passing through.

DESCRIPTION:Siskiyou Music Project presents Rhythm Future Quartet for their first southern Oregon performance on Saturday\, October 1 at Paschal Winery. Fans of great Gypsy Jazz won’t want to miss this one! \nRhythm Future Quartet has a straightforward agenda: to keep the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive and expanding in today’s musical universe. The virtuosic foursome\, named for a Django Reinhardt tune\, offers up a newly minted sound\, influenced by the classic Hot Club of France\, yet wholly contemporary. \nLed by violinist Jason Anick and guitarist Olli Soikkeli\, the quartet performs dynamic and lyrical arrangements of both Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon diverse international rhythms and musical idioms. With Max O’Rourke on second guitar and Greg Loughman on bass\, Rhythm Future is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of a vital musical genre. \nWhere the band’s self-titled debut album re-visited classic jazz and Gypsy jazz favorites\, Travels\, the quartet’s current release\, concentrates on group originals that make captivating use of musical sources from outside the conventional Gypsy jazz terrain. Travels reflects both the accumulated knowledge garnered from the groups world-wide touring as well as the international influences that inspired new rhythmic and harmonic possibilities within their compositions and arrangements. \nJason Anick\, an award-winning composer and one of the youngest professors at the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston\, has shared the stage with an array of artists including Grammy award winning guitarist John Jorgenson\, Stevie Wonder\, and Tommy Emmanuel. \nOlli Soikkeli (coined “the Finnish boy wonder”) recently made the move from Scandinavia to New York City\, where he quickly became a top call guitarist in the bustling Brooklyn jazz scene. He has performed alongside rising star Cyrille Aimee\, world-renowned Gypsy guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg\, Bucky Pizzarelli and many others. \nMax O’Rourke was the winner of the 2015 Saga Award from DjangoFest Northwest\, and at 19 has already toured/recorded with many of the top American Gypsy Jazz musicians including John Jorgenson and Gonzalo Bergara. \nGreg Loughman is a top call bassist in Boston and has been heard with such luminaries as Sheila Jordan\, Curtis Fuller and George Garzone.

Halie was a guest vocalist in 2014 with the New West Guitar Trio and headlined at the Britt Festival this summer for the Britt Festival Pops Concert. \nInternationally-acclaimed Singer-songwriter Halie Loren has enjoyed a very busy 2015 touring behind her critically-acclaimed newest (and eighth) album Butterfly Blue\, which was featured on this year’s Grammy ballot. The first thing you notice is that voice: gorgeous\, graceful\, and somehow earthy and ethereal at once. It is an instrument perfectly matched to the songwriting talents of the artist who channels it — Halie Loren. Her music conveys the wonders of the invisible world: wounded defiance\, stubborn love\, hard-earned hopefulness. Fed by the hyperborean beauty of her childhood Alaska home\, Loren’s gift for discovering the playfulness\, pizazz\, and sensuality inherent in a lyric appeared early on.
